Met Office extends health warning ahead of Norfolk heatwave

The Met Office issued a yellow alert for the East of England on Wednesday but this has since been escalated to an amber warning.

It was in place from 9am today, June 9, to 9am on Monday, June 12.

The alert has now been extended to 9am on Tuesday, June 13.

People are advised to keep out of the sun during the hottest part of the day between 11am and 3pm.

Parts of Norfolk are set to be hotter than the Algarve this weekend, with some parts of the county seeing highs of 29C.

The hot weather is due to Storm Oscar which battered the Canary Islands.

The storm has driven a warm plume of air to the east as it moves across the Atlantic, according to the Met Office.

The hot weather will be welcomed by many after the county was colder than most parts of the UK this month.
