Norfolk weather forecast: Highs of 26C as cold air pushed away

The weather system that has been battering the Canary Islands is to drive a warm plume of air into the east as it moves north-west across the Atlantic, according to the Met Office.

Highs of 26C and bright sunshine are predicted on Saturday and Sunday, making for a welcome change from the low teens.

A Met Office spokeswoman said: “Storm Oscar, which has been named by the Spanish Meteorological Service (AEMET), will not be impacting the UK, though will help to drive the warm plume of air into southern areas.

“This will lead to a rise in temperatures for much of the UK.

“Whereas the south-west could see highs of 30C, it is likely to be more subdued in the east due to a breeze keeping temperatures lower.”

Coastal areas will feel cooler, hovering around 20C over the weekend, whereas inland in places such as Thetford and Norwich it could reach 26C.

There is a risk of some thunderstorms hitting Norfolk on Sunday but moving into the following week, it should remain dry with clear skies.
