King’s Lynn Foodbank launches Big Supper Week

King’s Lynn Foodbank is asking individuals, churches and businesses across Norfolk to take part in its Big Supper Week by hosting a meal for friends and asking for a donation towards the charity.

The King’s Lynn Foodbank is running its second annual Big Supper Week from November 12-18 as substantial demand for the service continues. Last year Big Supper Week events raised over £2,500 for the Foodbank, which has fed over 4,000 people in the last 12 months.

“It’s a simple concept,” explains Foodbank Trustee Andy King. “We’re asking people to invite their friends or work colleagues for a meal. It could be an elaborate dinner party or a simple lunch – it doesn’t matter. But the idea is that people make a donation for the food they’ve eaten, which goes towards the work of the Foodbank.”

Andy continued: “I’ve already started to hear about events that are being held across the town, but also further afield in Norwich, Cambridge and Essex. We’re so grateful to the support of the public over the last seven years – we’ve fed far more people than we ever thought we would, and we wouldn’t be able to do it without the support of the community.”

The Foodbank is looking for people to host Big Supper Week events as individuals, schools, churches, businesses and restaurants. Although the event is called the Big Supper Week, events could be any size big or small, held at any time of the day – perhaps a big breakfast at work or a shared lunch at church – and could be held at any time between now and Christmas.
