Norwich: Cancer fundraiser at Garden House, Pembroke Road
Norwich local Gavin ‘Lefty’ Wright, 56, said his “world fell apart” when he was was diagnosed with liver cancer and given just months to live.
The news left him shattered and crying daily.
“It was devastating for me and my family,” he said.
“I felt trapped and I just couldn’t pull myself out.
“But then I had this sudden realisation that helping others helped me to feel better.”
As a result, Gavin decided to organise a charity fundraising day at the Garden House pub off Pembroke Road.

It will take place on Saturday, July 29 from 11am and all proceeds will be donated to Cancer Research UK.
A subsequent quiz night will also be held on Monday, July 31 July from 8 pm.
“The event is free and anyone can come along,” said Gavin.
“You don’t even have to donate.
“There will be a range of activitities including a barbecue, magician and raffle.
“But I don’t want it to just be a ‘family fun day’.
“I want to raise awareness of cancer and tell people how to spot the signs early.”
All proceeds will be donated to Cancer Research UK and Gavin has even set up a fundraising page which aims to amass a minimum of £1000 for the charity.
“I am passionate about raising awareness about cancer and research,” he said.
“I was to help raise money to fund life-saving research and to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured.
“We’re hoping as many people as possible can attend and any donations will be gratefully received.”
