Fund-raising concert in Walsingham Church

A classical concert will be held at the Church of the Annunciation in Walsingham next month to raise funds towards the replacement of the village hall which was destroyed by fire in January this year.

The concert will feature the Creakes Chamber Choir who will be joined by the Walsingers Children’s Choir, accompanied by the organ, and conducted by Justin Harmer. They will perform the John Rutter Requiem : “Grant them rest” in English followed by the Faure Requiem in Latin – a one-off chance to hear two settings side-by-side.

Justin Harmer, who is organising the concert, said “We are inviting everyone to prepare for Easter with this reflective programme on the Friday before Palm Sunday. This will be a unique opportunity to hear both English and Latin versions of the Requiem side by side, in the run up to Holy Week.”

All proceeds will go towards replacing the burnt out village hall, an event which is being treated as arson. There was press coverage of the fire, including BBC and ITV coverage on their local networks.

Justin continued “The community here sees this as a real chance to unite and build for the future of this village – we need to raise as much as we can to that end.”

The concert will take place at 7.30pm on Friday 31 March at the Church of the Annunciation, Friday Market, Little Walsingham. NR22 6DB. Tickets will be available on the door by cash or card and are only £5 per person, but donations above and beyond that price will be very welcome. Concessions are free.
