Norwich City: Andrew Omobamidele pens emotional farewell

The Irish international completed a move to the City Ground that could rise to £20m after the clubs struck a late agreement on Friday.

After a late dash to sign for Forest, Omobamidele was drafted into the Republic of Ireland squad as cover for Jon Egan after he suffered an injury in Sheffield United’s draw with Everton at the weekend.

Omobamidele has now taken to his social media channels to thank supporters, staff and the club for helping his pathway through the academy and into the first team.

He departs Norwich having made 55 appearances for the club since joining from hometown club Leixlip United in July 2018.

The Irish international is now hoping to fight his way into Steve Cooper’s squad in their quest for Premier League progress.

Omobamidele’s final outing was a Carabao Cup victory against Bristol City, where he appeared to spend time after the final whistle thanking and waving to the Norwich supporters in attendance.

The 21-year-old has now realised a more considered statement via his own social channels.

“I want to say a big thank you for everything the club has given me during my time at Norwich,” Omobamidele wrote.

“Thank you to all the staff at the club who’ve supported me since my first day at the academy. You challenged me and helped me grow to become the player I am today. It’s a special feeling for any player to go from the academy to the first team and I couldn’t have done it without you all.

“To the fans, although we didn’t get to properly say goodbye, I will always appreciate the love you showed me. Norwich is a special club and I always understood it was a privilege to wear these colours.

“As a young boy coming over from Ireland, I couldn’t have asked for a better place to call home. I wish the club nothing but the best this season and I’m looking forward to hopefully seeing it back where it belongs in the Premier League very soon. Thank you, Andrew.”
