Weather forecast for Norfolk with thunderstorms this weekend

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for Sunday (June 18), covering much of England and Wales.

The thunderstorms follow a fortnight of hot and sunny weather which saw temperatures reach 28C.

The warning is in place from midday to midnight on Sunday, with some places potentially having 60mm to 80mm of rainfall in three to six hours.

A spokeswoman from the Met Office said: “There is a very small chance of elevated storms on Saturday afternoon, but there may be a few rain showers.

“A few outbreaks of thundery rain are possible overnight Saturday and during the morning Sunday, but the main likelihood of heavy showers and thunderstorms is during the afternoon and evening, with longer spells of thundery rain in places.

“It is hit and miss where they will be, but the far south-east of the region is more likely in the morning, and they could be anywhere in the afternoon – it is very hard to pinpoint. Some places could see a perfectly fine day.

“When the storms hit, they will be very localised and could be torrential, with hail, lightning and strong winds.

“Sunday will be noticeably cloudier.”

The Met Office has also warned there is a chance that homes and businesses could be flooded quickly, while lightning strikes, hail or strong winds could cause damage.
