Storm Babet: Met Office issues new warning for Norfolk

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for heavy rain and high winds in Norfolk. The warning is in place from midnight on Friday until 6am on Saturday and warns of the possibility of fast-flowing or deep floodwater. Additionally, a separate warning for high winds of 60mph along the Norfolk coast has been issued from midday on Friday until midday on Saturday. This comes as Storm Babet, the second named storm of the season, brings heavy rain across the county.

According to a spokesperson from the Met Office, Friday and the early hours of Saturday are likely to see the peak of heavy rain, but unsettled weather is expected to continue throughout Saturday with further heavy rain at times. Sunday is also expected to be unsettled with the chance of some drier spells in between showery outbreaks of rain. As for Monday, low pressure is expected to remain in charge, bringing wet and windy weather to Norfolk.

The Royal National Lifeboat Institution has urged the public to exercise extreme caution, especially along exposed cliffs, seafronts, and piers. Storm Babet, which developed to the west of the Iberian peninsula, was named by the Met Office on Monday morning. With the potential for heavy rain and high winds, it is important for residents and visitors in Norfolk to stay alert and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
