Storm Babet: 57-hour Met Office warning issued for Norfolk

The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning for parts of England, beginning at 9pm on Wednesday and lasting for four days. During this time, more than 100mm of rainfall is expected, with some areas facing up to 150mm. With this level of rainfall, the forecaster has warned of potential flooding, power cuts, and travel disruption. The warning specifically extends to Norfolk, and people are advised to have a plan in case of power outages or water shortages.

While no wind alert has been issued, wind speeds of up to 48mph are expected on Saturday, which will cause delays in travel due to spray and flooding making driving conditions difficult. Stephen Dixon, a spokesman for the Met Office, has stressed that this will be a disruptive period of weather, with high rainfall totals likely to disrupt travel plans, and the risk of power cuts and flooding. Initially, the rain will heavily impact Northern Ireland, Wales, and the southwest of England on Wednesday and Thursday, but it will later concentrate on central and eastern Scotland, as well as central and eastern areas of England.

Dixon further mentioned that additional weather warnings are expected to be announced by the Met Office in the coming days. The current storm, named Babet, is the second named storm of the season, following Agnes, which brought strong winds to the coast. With the potential for significant rainfall and disruptive weather conditions, it is advised to stay updated on the latest weather warnings and to be prepared for the possibility of flooding, power cuts, and travel delays.
