Homes shake as thunder and lightning strikes in Norwich

People have reported homes shaking and car alarms being set off during the dramatic weather, which began after 5pm today (May 10).

As the rain tapered off, a double rainbow emerged over Carrow Road while thunder rumbled on and flashes of lightning could still be seen.

A Met Office Yellow weather warning is currently in place until 8pm today with heavy downpours expected amid the thunderstorm.

One woman, who lives in Union Street, said: “I’ve never heard thunder like that in my life.

“At one point I could feel my flat shaking the rumbles were so strong.”

By 6.20pm the rain had eased off and rays of sunshine poured across the city’s streets.

One person reported on Twitter that the booming thunder caused car alarms to be set off.

 

It is the second day that thunderstorms have battered the county, with yesterday’s downpours causing flooding in Costessey, Dereham and King’s Lynn.
