Norwich City Women 1 Cambridge Utd Women 1 at Carrow Road

The Canaries came from behind but could only manage a draw against Cambridge United in front of several thousand supporters at Carrow Road.

Visitors Cambridge took advantage of a nervy start from City by opening the scoring midway through the first half, with Isabella Simmons poking the ball past Sarah Quantrill from inside a congested penalty area.

City struggled in possession throughout the first period, although they did fashion a few decent opportunities towards the end of the half. Alice Parker was heavily involved, feeding Rachel Lawrence and Natasha Snelling with two neat through-balls, but neither attacker was able to convert.

The hosts’ desire to improve and to overturn the scoreline was evident after the break, and they drew themselves level less than five minutes after the restart when Megan Todd rolled home her second penalty in two games.

However, despite pushing for a winner, City were unable to complete the turnaround against a much more disciplined Cambridge side than the one Martin Herdman’s side thumped 5-0 in August.

Norwich City: Quantrill, Larkins (c), Flye, Croft, Parker, Morran, Knights, Todd, Smith, Lawrence, Snelling. Subs: Stanley, Symonds, Tomlinson, Shaw, Strauss.
