Norwich City Women 1 Boldmere St Michaels 2: match report

Norwich City Women’s team suffered their first home defeat of the season as they were knocked out of the Women’s FA Cup by West Midlands-based side Boldmere St Michaels. The game took place at The Nest, where the Canaries struggled to find their usual rhythm and went behind just after the half-hour mark when Boldmere’s Jade Formaston scored. However, Norwich quickly equalized with a header from Ceri Flye. The second half saw few clear-cut chances for either team, and it looked like the game was headed for extra time. However, in the fifth minute of second-half stoppage time, Boldmere’s Pip Wilson scored a goal from the edge of the box, securing their victory and a place in the third round proper.

The match saw Norwich fielding Quantrill, Parker, Larkins (c), Flye, Tomlinson, Morran, Knights, Todd, Smith, Symonds, and Shaw. Substitutes included Daviss, Snelling, Hailes, Cook, Lawrence, Strauss, and Pernet. The Canaries were unable to break down the hardworking Boldmere outfit, and their goalkeeper Jodie Whiteman was rarely tested. This defeat ended Norwich’s unbeaten home record for the season and meant their early exit from the FA Cup.

The loss was a disappointing one for Norwich City Women’s team, who were hoping to progress in the FA Cup. Their struggle to find their usual rhythm and the lack of clear-cut chances in the second half ultimately led to their defeat. Boldmere’s determined performance and last-minute goal sealed their victory and sent them through to the third round proper. Despite the disappointing result, the Canaries will have to regroup and refocus as they continue with their league campaign and aim to bounce back from this defeat in future fixtures.
