Norwich City: Matthews and Toffolo on Premier League duty

Gorleston-bred Matthews, who spent 14 years with City, made his Premier League debut as a substitute in Crystal Palace’s 2-1 home defeat to Liverpool. He was beaten by a stoppage time strike by Harvey Elliott. Matthews failed to make the grade at Carrow Road but worked hard and now had his proudest career moment.

Matthews was the late substitute for the injured Sam Johnstone and was unable to stop Liverpool’s late goal. He was happy to make his debut at the age of 29 after working hard for many years. Despite the disappointing result, he was proud of his achievement and looked forward to more opportunities in the future.

On the other hand, FA Youth Cup winning City defender Toffolo scored his first Premier League career goal for Nottingham Forest in a 1-1 draw at Wolves. This result eased pressure on the Forest boss Steve Cooper after a run of defeats. Toffolo acknowledged the embarrassment of their previous performance and expressed his love and respect for the coach.

Toffolo also revealed that he was given a suspended five-month FA ban in September for admitting to 375 breaches of betting rules dating back to his time at Carrow Road. Despite this, Toffolo was proud to wear the Forest badge and was committed to the team and the coach. He saw the recent draw as a step in the right direction for the team.
