Norwich City: Marcelino Nunez recovery timeline set after injury

The 23-year-old suffered a second-grade ankle sprain during the Reds’ 3-1 loss to Uruguay in the early hours of today, according to Encancha.

They claim the injury will keep Nunez out for Chile’s World Cup qualifier against Columbia on Wednesday morning, as well as being sidelined for his club in the mid term.

The former Universidad Catolica man limped off in the 89th minute of the defeat to Marcelo Bielsa’s side, before being seen leaving the Centenario on crutches post-match.

Chile manager Eduardo Berizzo refused to be drawn on the extent of Nunez’ injury when quizzed by journalists after the game, saying: “We will see Marcelino’s evolution, according to the exams they give him. It will be evaluated [today] by the medical staff.”

The Canaries have cover for Nunez in midfield, with Gabriel Sara and Kenny McLean impressing so far this season. Experienced operator Adam Forshaw was also signed on a free transfer late in the window, while Liam Gibbs is highly rated by head coach David Wagner.

Jacob Sorensen is also expected back in training imminently, after missing the second half of City’s pre-season with injury.
