Norwich City: Leicester City striker Tom Cannon to miss out

The 20-year-old is yet to even train with the Championship title favourites since his reported £7m switch from Everton at the climax to this month’s window.

City were eying a potential loan move once it was clear striker Josh Sargent was out until the new year – although reports of a big-money bid never materialised.

Cannon did attract firm offers from a number of second tier rivals, including Preston and Middlesbrough, before signing for Leicester.

But Foxes’ chief, Enzo Maresca revealed ahead of his squad’s trip to Norfolk Cannon remains sidelined with a stress fracture of his back.

“We found a problem when (Cannon) he signed,” he said, quoted on his club’s official site at his pre-match press call. “Because he’s a long-term investment, it doesn’t mean we need him now, so we prefer to be careful on that to make all the checks that we need to do.

“At the moment, he’s not training with us, so it will be quite long. It’s very similar to Dennis Praet’s injury. It’s a stress fracture in his back. We still don’t know how long. He hasn’t trained in any session with us.

“It’s a game every three games until the international break in October. We need to manage this kind of situation, try to share minutes, use all the players. This is already the reason why we made some changes in the last game.”

Maresca has been impressed with the Canaries’ early-season form.

“They are a very good team. They have different ways to play,” he said. “They are in one shape on the ball, a different shape off it. They are unbelievable. We’re going to try to be ourselves on and off the ball and try to get some points there.

“We must continue to improve. We have many things to improve. In the international break, we tried to add some solutions, even if they were not all here. The only way to continue is to improve as a player. Automatically, we will improve as a team.”
