Norwich City: Danny Batth inspiring under-21 Charlie Wilson
He could feature in tomorrow’s trip to Swansea City, with head coach David Wagner keen to state the importance of rotation in a busy period for the Norfolk side.
The 33-year-old chose to play in the club’s development meeting with West Brom on Sunday, pairing former Everton youngster Charlie Wilson at centre-back.
The 18-year-old praised Batth following the 2-1 win, and is hoping to learn lessons from the experienced defender.
“Experienced player, so it’s good to learn what he has, and take little bits of his game and add them to mine,” he told The Pink Un.
“His aerial duels [are what I’m hoping to add to my game], he’s good at that. Just his overall aggression, the experience he brings. He’s been in the game for a while.
“He’s definitely pretty loud, which I like to base my game on. It’s good to learn.”
Under-23s head coach Alan Neilson was also pleased with Batth’s influence, and believes his involvement with the group can only help in their progression.
“It’s really good, the experience that they (senior players) show, they’re communicating,” he said. “If you listen to the first team train, they’re shouting all the time.
“I say to our lads that they need to talk to each other, help each other out, drive each other on. So playing with experienced players can only help them in their future.
“He asked to play. He was only down to play 75, but he wanted to play 90! But of course the first team have got a game on Wednesday, and then next Saturday before the international break.
“So it’s important for him to get 75 minutes, so that if he’s needed on Wednesday night he can come on and do well, as he’s done [for the under-21s].”
