Norwich City: Christos Tzolis interview on Carrow Road spell
Greek winger Tzolis joined Norwich City from PAOK in 2021 for around £9 million, with high expectations for his potential to help the club achieve a Premier League survival mission. Unfortunately, he struggled to make an impact, starting only three times and failing to score. He was then loaned to Dutch side Twente, before returning to Norwich to be assessed by new head coach David Wagner. Following another unsuccessful spell in Norwich, Tzolis joined German second-tier team Fortuna Dusseldorf on a season-long loan in 2022.
In the 2.Bundesliga, Tzolis has thrived, scoring eight times and assisting twice in 13 appearances. Despite Dusseldorf having a multi-million-pound option to make his move permanent, Tzolis is focused on ensuring that the season ends in promotion rather than thinking about his future with Norwich. He has expressed a strong desire to play in the Bundesliga, and feels at home in Düsseldorf, enjoying his time with the team and looking forward to assisting and scoring more goals. He expressed his love for football and the enjoyment he has found at Dusseldorf, while acknowledging that his experience in England with Norwich had a detrimental impact on his love for the game.
Tzolis admitted that he did not have a good feeling, did not enjoy playing football, and lacked confidence during his time in England. He felt unappreciated and left behind in difficult phases. However, at Fortuna Dusseldorf, he feels appreciated and has regained his love for the game. With the support of the team, he is enjoying his football again and has experienced a significant improvement in his performance. Despite the uncertainty of the future, Tzolis is focused on his current situation at Dusseldorf and making the most of his time with the team. He is determined to continue developing his skills and contributing to the team’s success in the 2.Bundesliga.
