Norwich City: Angus Gunn features in Scotland 3-0 Cyprus

Norwich City’s goalkeeper has conceded just once in five matches since switching his allegiance earlier this year. That came from a penalty against Norway which Manchester City striker Erling Haaland converted in June.

Gunn has now kept four clean sheets in five international matches and has cemented the position as Steve Clarke’s number one. Should he feature against England on Tuesday, he will equal his father Bryan’s international record. The City legend recorded six caps for Scotland from 1990 to 1994.

Scotland have now moved nine points clear at the top of Group A and boast a 100pc record in their qualification campaign. They need just two points to secure their place at next summer’s Euro 2024 in Germany.

Goals from Scott McTominay, Ryan Porteous and John McGinn inside the opening 30 minutes saw Scotland secure a comfortable victory – although Gunn was made to work at points during the fixture.

Gunn was a bystander for most of the evening but made some excellent saves early on as Cyprus searched for a quick goal.

Norwich midfielder Kenny McLean was a 69th minute substitute, replacing ex-City loanee Billy Gilmour for the final stages of the match against Cyprus.

Tony Springett featured for the Republic of Ireland U21s in their Euro qualifier against Turkey in Cork and played a pivotal role in a dramatic ending.

The City winger teed up Millwall striker Aidomo Emakhu late on after an excellent surging run and cross from the right for Ireland to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory.

Springett started the game on the bench but replaced Sean Grehan on 84 minutes before his hand in the winning goal. They remain three points behind Iceland in Group A.

Ireland came from behind twice to secure the victory courtesy of Springett’s driving run in stoppage time.
