Norwich City 0-2 Leicester City: Player ratings from Carrow Road

Angus Gunn

His work around the edges was admirable at times, but Angus Gunn will have struggled to sleep after touching Kelechi Iheanacho’s match-winning penalty on its way past him.

Praised by goalkeeper coach Paul Clement for his distribution midway through the first half, and nothing he could do about the second. Still not a night he’ll be especially proud of. 5

Jack Stacey

Tested significantly by the fluid movement of Leicester star man Stephy Mavididi, but stood up to the challenge more often than not and thrived on the defensive work required early on.

Couldn’t find the quality needed with numerous crossing and shooting opportunities in the second half, when Norwich could have done with a more clinical finishing touch. 5

Shane Duffy

Another excellent performance from a man who’s increasingly looking like a summer window master stroke from Stuart Webber. One fantastically timed tackle to dispossess Iheanacho in a dangerous situation for the hosts.

Rightly booked for a foul on the same man in the 39th minute, but otherwise picked his timing well to hunt for possession. Lunged at just the right moment on a number of occasions.

Dominated aerially and got the first contact on a series of crosses and set-pieces, but should have directed his header better when Onel Hernandez stood a cross up late on.

Unlucky to be on the losing side. 8

Ben Gibson

A needless booking caused by his sloppy work in possession, but otherwise looked almost as solid as his defensive partner.

A fine tackle on substitute Jamie Vardy late on earned him some studs to the ankle. A positive start to the season for the 30-year-old that continued here. 7

Dimitris Giannoulis

Consistently the out ball as City played around a fervent Leicester press, and showed quality in possession.

Held McAteer off well when the youngster looked to be through on goal late in the first half. One gorgeous touch to control Kenny McLean’s pass out wide in the second.

This David Wagner system suits him perfectly, and it got the best out of him once again in this clash. 7

Kenny McLean

Made a few uncharacteristic errors in the first half but continued to be the leader Norwich have needed in Grant Hanley’s absence.

Key in an impressive press as the home side took the game to Enzo Maresca’s men in the second half, and saw a fine long-range effort crash off the bar late on. 6

Gabriel Sara

Consistently and detrimentally loose on the ball when he had the chance to break free of the Leicester press throughout the evening. Not currently looking like the August Championship player of the month.

Hasn’t reached the levels he’s capable of in City’s last three league games, and will need to if he’s to help them get back on track at Plymouth Argyle on Saturday. 5

Liam Gibbs

Deployed in an advanced position that meant chasing and jumping were his main roles in the game, and struggled for involvement as a result.

Ran hard throughout the fixture, but when a chance came to make his mark he half-volleyed tamely into the side netting. 5

Christian Fassnacht

The absolute antithesis of his fantastic display against Stoke.

Not at his technical best after a performance Wagner hailed as his best on Saturday. Lost possession on multiple occasions after promising build-up play from the Norfolk side.

Capped a shocking half with a needless foul on Stephy Madividi on the stroke of half-time that led to the opener.

Substituted for Onel Hernandez midway through the second half in an act of mercy from the German. 4

Jonathan Rowe

Showed bright signs as the players around him were struggling to get going in the final third, despite some close attentions from the Leicester defence. Harshly hooked for Przemyslaw Placheta at half-time as Wagner looked for a route back into the game.

Wagner confirmed post-match that Rowe will start at Home Park. 6

Ashley Barnes

Fairly absent in a tough first half, barring one poor pass to Stacey that slowed a promising Norwich attack. Injured his knee ligaments as he stretched for a cross early in the second, in another potentially huge blow to the yellow and green striking department. 5

SUBSTITUTES

Przemyslaw Placheta (on for Rowe, 45)

Took on the Leicester right-hand side a number of times to mixed success, but helped add the danger Norwich needed as they chased an equaliser.

Continues to string together impressive performances but will miss out on a starting place again in Devon. Surely not much more work for him to do on that front. 7

Adam Idah (on for Barnes, 53)

Started strongly, but that tailed off as City’s hopes of taking a point did the same. Again, looked good when facing goal but struggled with his hold-up play and suffered with his loose control. 6

Onel Hernandez (on for Fassnacht, 68)

Made a positive impact and provided the end product he’s lacked at times with a perfect cross for Duffy. A step in the right direction. 7

Hwang Ui-Jo (on for Gibbs, 68)

Chased the ball plenty but did little of note. One perfectly weighted and timed pass through to Stacey, who couldn’t do much with it. 6

Adam Forshaw (on for Gibson, 90+8)

One piece of control that turned into a pass to Giannoulis. N/A
