No ticket refunds and uncertain future at Norwich United

Norwich United Football Club has been left in a state of uncertainty and chaos since September. The club was the subject of a Football Association investigation, which caused doubts about whether the team would ever field a first team again. Former manager Darryl Tate claimed to have been punched twice in the head by a club member, further adding to the club’s troubles.

An anonymous source who was involved with the club behind the scenes revealed that a dozen season ticket holders had been left without a refund. These fans had not been able to see a senior match since September, despite having paid £120 for their season tickets. Many of these season ticket holders are pensioners, making the loss of money particularly impactful for them. The source expressed frustration at the lack of action from the FA and questioned what would prevent struggling teams from pulling out of the season and rejoining in a lower league the following year.

Norwich United has a long history, originally starting as Poringland and District FC in 1903. The club experienced success and eventually moved to Norwich in 1985, becoming Norwich United in 1987. They settled in Plantation Park in Blofield in 1992. However, the recent turmoil has caused the club to resign from the Thurlow Nunn Eastern Counties League Premier Division, resulting in their previous results being expunged. It is anticipated that relegation will be abolished as a result.

Despite these issues, Norwich United did not respond to a request for comment. The club’s future remains uncertain, with the possibility of starting again in a lower league being suggested. However, the situation raises concerns about the precedent it would set, potentially allowing struggling teams to withdraw from the season and rejoin in a lower league the next year. The lack of refund for season ticket holders and the alleged violence against the former manager only compound the turmoil surrounding the club.
