Chile boss’ criticism for City’s Marcelino Nunez after red card

Norwich City midfielder Marcelino Nuñez was shown a red card just 13 minutes after coming on as a substitute in a recent game against Venezuela. Nuñez reacted badly to a booking he received after a foul on Cristian Casseres and proceeded to make contact with the referee on three occasions. As a result, he will be suspended for Chile’s upcoming game against Paraguay during the international break. FIFA may choose to extend his ban depending on the referee’s report, but it will not affect his involvement with Norwich.

Chile were already trailing 1-0 at the time of Nuñez’s dismissal but were still pushing for an equalizer. However, Venezuela took advantage of their numerical superiority and went on to secure a 3-0 victory with goals from Saloman Rondon and Darwin Machis. Manager Eduardo Berizzo expressed his disappointment in Nuñez, stating that the sending off was a turning point in the game and emphasizing the importance of avoiding mistakes at this level.

In another match, Norwich’s Kenny McLean started for Scotland in their friendly game against France. Despite taking an early lead through Billy Gilmour, Scotland suffered a 4-1 defeat with Benjamin Pavard, Kylian Mbappe, and Kingsley Coman all finding the net for the French. McLean played in a wide left position as manager Steve Clarke made changes after securing qualification for the Euros.

Norwich goalkeeper Angus Gunn was an unused substitute in the Scotland match, as Clarke opted to give playing time to other goalkeepers. All Norwich players involved in international duty will now return to the club to rejoin their teammates ahead of their upcoming match against Leeds United.
