Norwich City transfer news: Jon McCracken joins Accrington Stanley

The Scottish stopper makes the move to Lancashire on a week-long contract after an injury to first-choice Toby Savin in a 2-0 defeat to Tranmere Rovers.

McCracken joins City team-mates Brad Hills and Lewis Shipley at Accrington, after they both sealed season-long loan moves this summer.

He was recalled from a loan at Dundee after four appearances for the Scottish Premiership side when Tim Krul joined Luton Town during the transfer window. He had lost his place in the XI at Dens Park, but is looking forward to the challenge with his new club.

He told their official channels: “I don’t know how long I will be here, but I have got a job to do for the team.

“I know Toby is injured and that’s unfortunate for him, but thankfully it’s presented an opportunity for myself to get some games.

“I know Brad and Ships from being at Norwich. The rest of the boys, I have been here two days and it’s a good changing room.

“I spoke to Brad and Ships before I came here and they were singing the club’s praises and I spoke to goalie coach Dibs (Andy Dibble) before I came.

“Brad has done really well and Ships was unfortunate to pick up an injury, but the boys are loving it and have done well so hopefully I can replicate that.

“There is something on the line every single game, it’s in a proper league with meaning behind every game and so it’s a challenge.

Accrington assistant manager Jimmy Bell added: “Jon is a character, he seems very good around the place, he has settled in well and we have got high expectations for him as he has for himself.

“He is a good acquisition for the club and the team to play on Saturday, if selected.

“The fact he has played with a few of our players already at Norwich Under-23s and has been on loan at a couple of clubs bodes well.

“We are expecting good things from him.”
