Car fire closes stretch of A11 road near Norwich

Fire crews from Earlham and Carrow stations in Norwich were called to a crash on the A11 that resulted in a blaze, causing long traffic delays in the area. Plumes of dense smoke could be seen rising from the scene, with a vehicle breakdown further complicating the situation. National Highways sent teams to the scene and set up a diversion through Hethersett for motorists traveling on the A11 at Thickthorn.

The road closure at Thickthorn led to significant traffic congestion and delays on the westbound A47. Fire crews worked to extinguish the blaze, while efforts were made to clear the area and remove the broken-down vehicle from the carriageway. National Highways advised drivers to allow extra time for their journeys and follow the diversion route through Hethersett to rejoin the A11 at Tuttles Lane interchange.

Authorities worked to manage the situation and minimize the impact on traffic flow in the area. The combination of the crash, resulting blaze, and vehicle breakdown created challenges for emergency responders and highway maintenance crews. Motorists were urged to follow the diversion route and remain patient as efforts were made to reopen the affected section of the A11.

Despite the disruption caused by the incident, emergency services and highway agencies worked together to address the situation efficiently. Fire crews from Earlham and Carrow stations responded promptly to the crash and subsequent blaze, while National Highways coordinated traffic management efforts to guide motorists through the diversion. The cooperation between agencies and the swift response of emergency responders helped to resolve the incident and restore normal traffic flow on the A11.
