Norwich City: Jonathan Rowe & Shane Duffy in internationals

In international football action, Shane Duffy and Adam Idah represented the Republic of Ireland, while Jonathan Rowe played for England’s under-21 team and Dimitris Giannoulis was an unused substitute for Greece.

Duffy played the full 90 minutes as the Republic of Ireland faced off against Brighton striker Evan Ferguson and his Brighton teammate, Adam Idah. Brighton’s Ferguson opened the scoring after just eight minutes, followed by Michael Johnston doubling the lead. Matt Doherty made it three for the Republic of Ireland, with Callum Robinson completing the scoring. Although the Republic of Ireland cannot qualify automatically for Euro 2024, they still have a slim chance of success through the play-offs.

Meanwhile, Jonathan Rowe was unable to help England’s under-21s as they suffered a shock defeat to Ukraine in the Euros qualifying match. Rowe entered the game as a substitute for James McAtee and played 23 minutes. Although Noni Madueke managed to bring England back into the game, early goals from Nazar Voloshyn and Oleh Ocheretko gave Ukraine a commanding lead. Despite Leeds United defender Charlie Cresswell equalizing for England in the 89th minute, Ukraine managed to secure a 3-2 victory with a last-minute goal from Illya Kvasnytsya. As a result, England’s under-21 team lost their top spot in Group F and are in second place with six points after three games.

On the other hand, Dimitris Giannoulis was an unused substitute for Greece in their match against the Netherlands. Greece suffered a late heartbreak, conceding a penalty in added time, which was converted by Virgil van Dijk to give the Netherlands a 1-0 victory. With this loss, Greece’s qualification hopes for Euro 2024 hang in the balance, as they currently sit in third place, outside the automatic qualification spots.

In summary, Duffy and Idah played for the Republic of Ireland, with the former playing the entire match and the latter coming on as a substitute. The Republic of Ireland won their game, but their chances of Euro 2024 qualification are slim. Rowe played for England’s under-21s and despite their comeback efforts, they suffered a defeat to Ukraine. Giannoulis was an unused substitute for Greece, who suffered a late defeat to the Netherlands. Greece’s qualification hopes for Euro 2024 are uncertain at this stage.
