Norwich City: Ex-players feature in Scottish Masters

The BBC hosted a four-way tournament between Celtic, Rangers, Hibernian and Hearts in Glasgow, involving a host of legends and former players of the sides.

Masters Football was a popular tournament featuring ex-footballers that aired on Sky Sports between 2000 and 2011.

It has been relaunched after more than a decade away – with a host of familiar names involved.

Hooper, 35, is still playing in the UAE with Gulf United and was the standout player throughout the tournament, netting a host of goals to lead Celtic to the title, including a brace against Rangers in a 3-2 victory.

Since departing Norwich, Hooper has played in India, New Zealand and Cyprus in a globe-trotting final chapter to a career that has seen him net in all four leagues and both domestic cups in England.

The final of the competition saw Celtic face Hibs – with Grant Holt leading the line for Hibernian. The City legend enjoyed a season in Edinburgh in 2016/17, netting five goals in 30 matches.

A cheeky chip in a 4-2 victory over Hearts was undoubtedly Holt’s best goal of the evening, but he was a prominent players in their run to the final when they were eventually beaten 5-2 – ex-City striker Hooper netted a brace.

As well as Holt and Hooper, two ex-City players featured for Rangers with midfielder Graham Dorrans, who is plying his trade for seventh tier side Johnstone Burgh alongside Kyle Lafferty, and defender Carlos Cuellar – who made 10 appearances for Norwich in 2014.

Ian Murray, who had an ill-fated spell in Norfolk back in 2008, featured alongside Holt in Hibernian’s side.

Norwich did field a team in Masters Football back in 2003 with a team that consisted of Bryan Gunn, Neil Adams, Jeremy Goss, Dale Gordon and Rob Newman. They finished bottom of their group after failing to record a victory against Coventry, Leicester and Ipswich.
