Norwich City: Chile boss Eduardo Berizzo on Marcelino Nunez injury
The Norwich City midfielder limped out of Chile’s 3-1 defeat to Marcelo Bielsa’s Uruguay over the weekend after landing awkwardly on his left ankle.
Nunez was pictured leaving the stadium on crutches and looking downbeat as City fans, nearly 7,000 miles away, waited with baited breath for an update on the midfielder.
ANALYSIS: Canaries can deal with Marcelino Nunez absence
At his pre-match press conference ahead of Wednesday’s game against Colombia in Santiago, Berizzo confirmed that Nunez will be absent for the game but refused to comment when asked about the extent of his injury or length of recovery.
“Regarding Marcelino, the recovery times for his sprain will not allow him to make it to tomorrow. It will not be possible for him to join tomorrow’s game,” Berizzo told various media outlets.
Nunez will return to the UK and receive further assessment from City’s medical staff to determine the length of his lay-off. That will depend on the grade of the sprain and whether any ligaments have been affected.
David Wagner will hold his pre-match press conference for the Canaries’ upcoming Championship fixture against Stoke on Thursday, where he will deliver an update on the Chilean international’s condition.
Norwich are expected to welcome Adam Forshaw and Jacob Sorensen back to the fold after the international break.
