Thetford Salvation Army supports jobseekers

Jobseekers in and around Thetford are invited to The Salvation Army in the town on 30 June to find out how the church and charity’s Employment Plus scheme can help them into work.

Friday 30 June has been designated nationally as Employability Day, and is designed to raise awareness of the issues confronting job seekers and help them break down the barriers that can lead to meaningful employment. On the day, local people are being invited to come down to find out how the Salvation Army’s Employment Plus service can help them.

Employment Plus runs every Tuesday and Thursday at the Salvation Army’s Thetford centre on Magdalen Street, but this special event will run from 10am to 12pm on June 30 to mark the national occasion.

Support is offered with a range of employability skills including CV support, job search skills and careers guidance. Further support is offered with accessing benefits while there will also be guidance with housing and tenancy issues, money management and budgeting tips.

Becky Henry is assistant regional manager for Employment Plus and urges anyone who needs support into work to come and see what is on offer. “Jobs are important, especially now, with so many people upskilling and changing jobs. The financial aspect aside, they also help you help build confidence, meet new people and learn new things” she said.

The Salvation Army believes that better access to employment support is the key to tackling poverty and in the past 12 months, has helped 35,000 people across the UK and Ireland with job support. 10,000 of those have received a full and structured journey towards employment with almost half, 42.9%, gaining employment.
