Stalham concert to aid church room repairs
Christian band Out of Egypt are “Back on the Camel” at Stalham Baptist Church next month to raise funds for the refurbishment of part of the church premises.
Formed in 2018, Out of Egypt are returning to the concert stage after a break of three years forced on them by health issues, childbirth and, of course, COVID. Their “Back on the Camel” concert will be at Stalham Baptist Church on Saturday 17 September.
The band plays a broad range of Christian songs in a contemporary style. Their repertoire includes early spirituals and old time Gospel numbers, some that people might consider pop songs and a growing collection of original songs written by band member Gary Cunningham.
Besides the music, the audience can expect the “Back on the Camel” concert to include plenty of good-humoured banter, a testimony or two and those attending encouraged to join in with some of the songs.
Before the break the band had played at the Norfolk Broads Filling Station, St Mary’s Church, Hickling, the Stalham Fringe Festival, a sheltered housing scheme, a number of school assemblies and provided the music for services at HMP Bure. They were also interviewed on the internet station, “Faithful Radio” on the release of their CD.
Diana Gordon sings in the band and is also secretary of Stalham Baptist Church. She explains that the concert is one of series organised by the church to raise funds for the refurbishment of the church’s School Room. All the proceeds will add to the £230,600 already raised through grants and fund raising towards the £600,000 target, most of which needs to be raised before work can commence.
Diana said, “The church already hosts a Food Bank and a Community Fridge has weekly “coffee and chat” and table tennis sessions that are open to all, but we need more space to provide other events and activities. The School Room has barely changed since the day it was built in 1884 and its floor is now beginning to give way.”
Doors open at Stalham Baptist Church at 6:30pm The concert starts at 7:00pm. There is no charge to attend but donations will be gratefully accepted at the end of the evening. Refreshments will be available.
