UEA Livewire Radio releases 2023 Christmas charity single

Livewire1350, a student radio station from the Norwich campus, has been releasing a charity song each year since 1990, with the aim of raising money for a good cause. This year, the chosen charity is Nourishing Norfolk, and the song, “Spread the Joy,” was created in collaboration with Higher Common Room Records, UEA’s Music Production Society, local singer-songwriter Nik Richard, and producer Andre Weber. George Cooke, Livewire’s station manager, expressed that this year’s Christmas project is more ambitious than before and is aimed at spreading festive joy and supporting the local community. The song is currently available on YouTube and SoundCloud, and donations can be made through justgiving.com/page/spreadthejoy1350.

The collaborative effort to create “Spread the Joy” had local singer-songwriter Nik Richard at the forefront, with gratitude for the opportunity to work with so many talented individuals on a brilliant Christmas song for an excellent cause. Billie Lawler, the Nourishing Norfolk Network coordinator, emphasized the importance of donations in helping over 8000 families (24000 people) currently supported by the network to make a Christmas to remember amidst the cost-of-living crisis. Livewire1350 expressed gratitude for the opportunity to support Norfolk Community Foundation and help ease the winter struggle for families through their Christmas project.

The Livewire committee works to ensure that regardless of talent, all members are asked to contribute their voices to the festive hit, emphasizing unity and community involvement in their charitable efforts. With the global pandemic affecting many families and exacerbating difficulties for many, the project’s aim is to spread festive joy and provide support to the local community. The release of “Spread the Joy” on YouTube and SoundCloud enables the wider community to enjoy the song while also contributing to a good cause. The chosen charity, Nourishing Norfolk, supports thousands of families who struggle with the cost of living, and each donation goes a long way in helping these families make Christmas a memorable and happy occasion.
