Norwich couple finish epic tour of UK’s 52 cathedrals

Jon and Linda Reed from Norwich recently completed an incredible cycling pilgrimage to every Anglican Cathedral in England and Episcopalian Cathedral in Scotland. The couple, both in their 60s, embarked on this adventure on May 31, starting from Ipswich and covering a distance of 4850km. Their journey was not without challenges, as they faced two punctures, a broken frame, a broken pannier rack, a split tire, a snapped tent pole, and even falling into the Grand Union Canal. However, despite these obstacles, they successfully visited all 52 cathedrals on their list.

Upon arriving at Norwich Cathedral on the morning of October 16, the Reeds expressed their disbelief that they had completed such an epic challenge. They described feeling a mix of excitement and sadness, both relieved to have finished and uncertain about what their next adventure would be. Throughout their journey, they documented every stop on their blog, ensuring that others could follow along and share in their experiences.

The Reeds were supported by the English Cathedral Association and Cycle UK, who provided them with a passport for their pilgrimage. This passport was stamped at each cathedral, symbolizing their progress along the UK English Cathedral Pilgrimage route. When they reached Norwich Cathedral, the couple received the final stamp from the sacrist, marking the end of their pilgrimage.

Looking ahead, the Reeds mentioned their interest in future cycling tours, expressing a particular desire to explore Asia or South America. They found the experience to be highly addictive and expressed a desire to discuss potential future adventures once they returned home. In the meantime, they plan to travel back to Ipswich via train and reflect on their incredible accomplishment.

This journey of Jon and Linda Reed from Norwich serves as a testament to their determination and love for adventure. Their pilgrimage to every Anglican Cathedral in England and Episcopalian Cathedral in Scotland is a remarkable feat that showcases their resilience and passion for exploration.
