Mousehold View care home in Sprowston unveils Siano Cafe

A new care home in Sprowston, Mousehold View Care Home, opened in October and held a charity naming competition for three suites. The complex has since revealed the Siano Cafe, named after Pat Siano, a passionate member of the Mousehold Heath Defenders who died in 2016. Pat played a significant role in preserving the area for future generations and was instrumental in the rebuilding of the Mousehold bandstand. The home’s customer service manager, Dan Amis, was moved by Pat’s story and the work she did to preserve the heath, leading to the decision to honor her by naming the home’s cafe after her.

The opening of the Siano Cafe included a plaque in remembrance of Pat and a £100 donation to the Mousehold Heath Defenders. Pat’s life was closely tied to Mousehold Heath, as she met her husband Giovanni there during the Second World War. Despite being separated when Giovanni was deported as an Italian prisoner of war, they eventually reunited and married in 1948. Pat lived on Mousehold Avenue for 81 years, considering herself lucky to have a view of the heath every day.

The new Avery Healthcare 77-bedroom home, built on the site of a former Start Rite shoe factory, will be hosting an Open Day. The entire home team at Mousehold View was moved by Pat’s story and the impact she had on preserving the heath, which led to the decision to name the home cafe after her. Along with the dedication of the Siano Cafe, a plaque was placed in remembrance of Pat and a donation of £100 was presented to the Mousehold Heath Defenders.

Overall, the Mousehold View Care Home in Sprowston has named its cafe after Pat Siano, a passionate member of the Mousehold Heath Defenders who spent much of her life preserving the area for future generations. The home’s decision to honor Pat, who considered herself lucky to have a view of the heath every day from her home, has been described as heartwarming. The opening of the Siano Cafe, along with the naming of three suites, has been a way for the home to pay tribute to Pat and her remarkable work in the preservation of Mousehold Heath.
