No charge for teen arrested for arson after Norwich fires

A series of fires broke out in disused sites in the Norwich area over the summer, raising concerns about the security of such locations. The most recent incident occurred at a former Victorian pumping station in Trowse, resulting in serious damage to the building. This was the third in a string of similar incidents, following fires at a former industrial building and a mental hospital, all of which were determined to be arson following independent investigations by the Police and Fire services.

One of the cases, a fire at St Andrew’s Hospital in Thorpe St Andrew in October, was specifically treated as arson by the authorities. Four days after the Trowse fire, a teenager was arrested on suspicion of causing all three fires and was taken to Aylsham Police Investigation Centre. Although he was released on police bail with a curfew and instructed not to enter any derelict buildings, he is due to answer bail on December 16th. These incidents have raised concerns about the security and safety of disused sites in the Norwich area.
