Bail of teens extended ahead of James Quigley murder trial

In January of this year, an 18-year-old named James was fatally stabbed in Ipswich after being approached by two other males in Westgate Street. He died at the scene after sustaining four stab wounds to the abdomen. Two individuals, Alfie Hammett and Joshua Howell, were charged with murder just two days later and have been held on remand in youth detention. Their trial is set for December 11. However, on June 20, two more individuals were arrested on suspicion of murder. An 18-year-old man from Norwich and a 16-year-old boy from Cambridgeshire were taken into custody for questioning and released on bail until September. The bail for these two teenagers has since been extended.

Suffolk police have confirmed that there are currently no charges against the two teenagers who were arrested in June. Despite their release on extended bail, they are still under investigation as potential suspects in the murder case. It is unclear at this point what their involvement may have been, and the police continue to gather evidence and conduct further enquiries.

The trial for the two initial suspects, Hammett and Howell, remains scheduled for December 11. It is unknown if any additional information or evidence has been uncovered that may affect the trial proceedings. The police have not provided any updates on the progress or potential outcome of the investigation.

The murder of James has undoubtedly left a lasting impact on the community of Ipswich. In response to the tragic incident, a ‘life-saving’ bleed kit is being introduced in his memory. This kit aims to provide essential medical supplies and training to help prevent deaths from stab wounds and other severe injuries. It is a testament to the lasting impact of James’s murder and the community’s commitment to preventing similar incidents in the future.
