Norwich gym CREW Fitness running group for cancer survivors
CREW Fitness, in Vulcan Road, is becoming the only gym outside of East Anglia to work with a worldwide charity – helping provide a better quality of life for those returning to reality – after dealing with the rigors of battling cancer.
The ‘Battle Cancer Programme’ is a free 12-week programme run by Battle Cancer – a UK charity – specially designed for individuals who are a minimum of two months clear of treatment.

Carey Pearson, owner of CREW Fitness, said: “The goal is to help cancer survivors to reclaim their physical and mental well-being within an inspiring and inclusive environment.
“It consists of two, one hour sessions, per week for 12 weeks which starts on Tuesday September 26 and continues every Tuesday and Friday going forward.
“Those who attend can progress at a pace that takes into account specific energy needs, any soft-tissue issues associated with surgery, physical abilities and specific goals.
“We hope it will instil life-long habits with exercise, instead of just being a short-term intervention.”
The gym’s coaches will have to obtain certification in order to teach the programme and to accommodate the various conditions of people who may come through the door.
Carey added: “Cancer has most likely affected everyone, either directly or indirectly, so to be able to support the cause is a no-brainer.

“It’s just the right thing to do and it’s a great opportunity.
“The health benefits of crossfit are proven – it tests people’s fitness at level – so in my opinion this is the best form of exercise and to help those recovering from cancer.”
