Norwich City: Jonathan Rowe scores for England under-21s
In a dominating performance, the Three Lions, led by striker Rowe, secured a resounding 9-1 victory over their opponents at Nottingham Forest’s City Ground. Rowe made an impact after coming on as a substitute in the 69th minute, replacing Noni Madueke. The 20-year-old showcased his prowess with a powerful header from Harvey Elliott’s cross in the 89th minute. This goal was followed by Liverpool midfielder Elliott completing his hat-trick to seal England’s emphatic triumph.
Chelsea’s Noni Madueke was also on target, contributing two goals to the team’s impressive tally. Liam Delap, currently on loan at Hull City, added to the scoring with a well-taken goal, while his teammate Jaden Philogene netted a brace as well. An own goal from Luka Subotic further extended the Young Lions’ lead, making it a comprehensive victory for the English side.
In a different match, Rowe’s club-mate Angus Gunn endured disappointment as Scotland suffered a 2-0 defeat against Spain in Seville. Gunn, who plays as the first-choice goalkeeper for Manchester City, played the entire game but was unable to prevent late goals from Alvaro Morata and Oihan Sancet. The loss forced Scotland to wait for their qualification for Euro 2024, with Kenny McLean and former Norwich loanee Billy Gilmour coming on as substitutes in an attempt to turn the tide in their favor.
Despite the setback, Scotland remains on the brink of qualification for the tournament in Germany, with the hopes of securing their spot still alive. Gunn’s performance in goal might not have yielded the desired result, but his presence and dedication will surely be cherished by the Scottish national team as they aim to secure their place in Euro 2024.
