Gorleston man Malcolm Metcalf signing copies of his book
Malcolm Metcalf, an 89-year-old man from Gorleston, recently completed his “90 before 90” challenge and will be signing copies of his book, ‘My Adventurous Life’, at the Oak Room in the Maids Head Hotel in Norwich on October 15. The book, a self-published memoir and travelogue, was first published in 2019 and details Metcalf’s travels to over 50 countries around the world.
Metcalf’s challenge ended on September 30, during which he traveled across Norfolk using 15 different modes of transport including a horse and barrow, a chimney sweep van, and a police car. Prior to this challenge, he had accomplished various daring feats such as flying a plane, editing a newspaper, and becoming the oldest entrant ever at the Gorleston Cliffs ParkRun. Metcalf undertook these endeavors in an effort to raise funds for the Priscilla Bacon Hospice, with a goal of £10,000.
At the book signing event, Metcalf will meet with readers and autograph copies of his book between 11am and 1pm. ‘My Adventurous Life’ offers readers a unique insight into Metcalf’s experiences and adventures during his travels. The book not only showcases his journeys to different countries but also delves into the stories and memories made along the way.
Metcalf’s passion for travel and exploration is evident throughout the pages of ‘My Adventurous Life’. From hitchhiking in a Volkswagen Beetle for 7,000 miles to immersing himself in various cultures, Metcalf’s writings offer readers a window into the world of a seasoned traveler. This book is more than just a memoir – it serves as a source of inspiration for those with a thirst for adventure, proving that age is no barrier to chasing one’s dreams.
In addition to recounting his tales, Metcalf’s book also serves as a tribute to the Priscilla Bacon Hospice. The funds raised through his challenge and book sales contribute to their mission of providing compassionate care for those in need. By sharing his personal story and experiences, Metcalf hopes to draw attention to the vital work being done by the hospice and inspire others to support their cause.
Overall, Malcolm Metcalf’s “90 before 90” challenge and book signing event showcase his incredible zest for life and determination to make a positive impact. The combination of his extraordinary travels detailed in ‘My Adventurous Life’ and his advocacy for the Priscilla Bacon Hospice make him an inspirational figure, proving that age is not a barrier to leading a fulfilling and adventurous life.
