Norwich City: Wagner not concerned at away downturn
The Canaries slipped to a third consecutive away defeat in the league in a 2-1 midweek loss at Swansea.
City’s output on the road has nosedived since a bright start to the season, including an embarrassing 6-2 hammering at newly-promoted Plymouth.
Wagner accepts that must change, and quickly, with 3,000 travelling supporters heading to the Sky Blues for the final game prior to the international break.
“No, this is not a concern to me,” said Wagner. “Because, beforehand, we had quite a good away record, which everyone was speaking about. For me, the concern is how we lost these three away games in the league. All three of them were for different reasons. Swansea, the reason was clear, in both boxes we have not done our jobs properly.
“This what we have to say, and where we have to criticise ourselves, and where we have to say this is the reason we lost a game we could win.
“This is where the frustration comes from. But we have another opponent on Saturday, and we have to behave better in both penalty areas. (Is it a big game?) Yes, but to be fair, Swansea felt like a very big game. We knew after two away defeats we could collect three very important points, which we haven’t collected in the previous away games.
“This was our aim, our task, and we haven’t done our job. It was there for us, but we haven’t done enough.”
Wagner will provide a fitness update from the camp at Colney on Friday afternoon, ahead of a test against last season’s beaten Championship play-off finalists.
But Spanish winger Borja Sainz is rated doubtful after missing the Swansea trip with the ankle knock he picked up on development duty.
Sainz had a delayed start to his Norwich career following ankle ligament damage suffered in pre-season, shortly after his move from Turkey.
“Yes, he is struggling,” said Wagner. “Nothing serious, but serious enough for him not to be available for Swansea and makes him a doubt for the weekend as well.”
