When you can see the Super Harvest Moon in Norfolk this week

Here is everything you need to know about the Harvest Moon that will light up our skies on Friday, September 29. 

What is the Harvest Moon? 

The Harvest Moon is the full moon that appears closest to the autumn equinox.

It is also a supermoon which is the name given to a full moon that coincides with the moon’s closest approach to Earth.

Supermoons appear much brighter and larger than usual. 

It is called a Harvest Moon because this brightness once allowed farmers to work by moonlight and for longer hours. 

How can I see the Harvest Moon? 

The best time to observe the supermoon will be on Friday morning (September 29). 

According to the Royal Observatory, Greenwich, the moon will be at its peak at 10.57am. 

The supermoon will also be visible overnight on Thursday (September 28). 

The visibility of the Harvest Moon is dependent on weather conditions and clear skies will provide the best view. 

When will a supermoon next appear?

The Harvest Moon will be the last supermoon of the year. 

Another supermoon will not be visible until 2024.
