Norwich’s Castle Social denies it is to shut amid closures

Castle Social in Castle Quarter has seen its Mamma Mia and Currybox kitchens close, while Hanks Dirty has announced it will be moving to the former home of Cocina, leaving just two kitchens in the mall, new taco sellers Togo’s Street Eats and Streetfood Box.

Following the closures a number of rumours began to swirl that the food court was nearing its end, but it is open and businesses and mall bosses denied a closure was imminent.

Rocco Consiglio, owner of Mamma Mia, which is closing in order to allow him to return to Bologna in Italy, said he felt the food court was on its way to closing after losing so many businesses.

He said: “The question raised by many of our customers in the city is, is this the end for Castle Social in Castle Quarter? And can it come back from these vendors closing?

“I completely blame the management company for the failure of this food court, they need to let the vendors run independently to become successful.”

Currently, vendors at the mall’s dining area cannot sell drinks, with customers made to visit its central bar.

Castle Social boss Rob Bradley said he was reviewing its management structure in order to find the best way to move forward.

He said: “Castle Social remains open and will not be closing.

“We are currently reviewing the management of Castle Social so that it has long-term success here at Castle Quarter and can continue to be a part of our growing social, leisure and lifestyle offer.”

Marketing and administration manager at Castle Quarter, Gemma Hyde, has previously said Market Asset Management, who own the venture are on the look out for new kitchens, however no new openings have since materialised.
