Norwich City: Borja Sainz plays in under-21s’ Everton loss

The Spaniard added to his half against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Tuesday to feature in the Premier League 2 clash, as his recovery from injury continues.

Sainz was signed from Turkish side Giresunspor this summer but suffered ankle ligament damage before he’d played his first game for the Canaries.

City head coach David Wagner revealed in his press conference this morning that Sainz is likely to make his first-team debut when Norwich travel to Fulham in the Carabao Cup next Wednesday.

The 22-year-old was involved throughout, but struggled to make an impact in the final third along with his team-mates.

Adian Manning and Ken Aboh had shots for the visitors but neither came close, with Toffees loanee Jack Harrison a thorn in the collective City side.

Francis Okoronkwo opened the scoring for Everton with 28 minutes on the clock, converting from the penalty spot after Finlay Welch brought Katia Kouyate down in the box.

Sainz had his best chance of the game late in the half when he got a shot off with his left foot, but saw it deflected behind for a corner.

Jenson Metcalf doubled the deficit in the first minute of the second period, capitalising on a poor pass out from Norwich goalkeeper Vicente Reyes.

Kouyate then had a good chance to make it three when he was found in the box, but Reyes pulled off a fine save to deny him.

Deadline-day arrival Daniel Ogwuru pulled a goal back for Alan Neilson’s side, but they were unable to find an equaliser and left the north west empty-handed.
