Norwich City: Christos Tzolis finds goalscoring form

The Norwich City winger has impressed since joining the Bundesliga Two club and found form after a chastening second half of the campaign at Carrow Road last term.

Tzolis netted the opening goal in Dusseldorf’s 3-1 victory over Hansa Rostock, cutting in from the left and curling into the corner of the net past the experienced Markus Kolke.

The Greek international has become a popular figure at the Merkur Spiel-Arena and has made the perfect first impression at his new club.

Dusseldorf sit top of the Bundesliga Two having taken 13 points from their opening six games of the campaign. The German club can convert Tzolis’ loan spell into a permanent one next summer after inserting an option into the loan agreement with Norwich.

Tzolis was replaced in the 62nd minute by Jona Niemiec and was pictured shaking his head as he headed straight down the tunnel in disagreement with the decision.

His coach Daniel Thioune reflected on it with a smile post-match and believes it is natural for young players to be disappointed by being taken off.

“Five games, five goals – maybe Christos wants to take his personal record to another level,” the Dusseldorf coach told RP Online.

“That’s just how young players are. But that also speaks for the culture of the boys. That they are not full, that they are not satisfied. It would be strange if it wasn’t like that and everyone was happy about her substitution.”

City duo Brad Hills and Lewis Shipley started for Accrington Stanley in their 4-1 victory over Sutton United.

Hills continues to impress and boast positive numbers from his performances. He has earned plenty of plaudits for his displays and capability in the air.

Shipley made his first start for the League Two club since suffering an injury on the opening day of the campaign. He subsequently returned to Norwich for treatment before linking back up with Accrington earlier this week.

“It was a big ask for Lewis Shipley to come back after such a long absence having only trained Thursday and Friday. All credit to him,” John Colemen told club channels.

Abu Kamara started once again for Portsmouth in League One and nearly teed up Colby Bishop for an opportunity in the first half. He was replaced after 91 minutes by Tino Anjorin as John Mousinho’s side rescued a late point away at Derby.

Archie Mair played the entirety of Gateshead’s 1-1 draw against ex-King’s Lynn boss Tommy Widdrington’s Aldershot Town in the National League.

Both Jonathan Tomkinson (Bradford City) and Dylan Berry (Havant and Waterlooville) were not named in the matchday squads this weekend.
