Norwich City: Narcis Pelach praises top mentor David Wagner

After departing Huddersfield Town earlier in the summer, Pelach held talks with a host of clubs around a fresh coaching opportunity, but several meetings with City boss Wagner was the key to attracting him to Norfolk.

Pelach is highly-rated and has a remarkable coaching CV despite only being 35 – he has quickly made a positive impact at Norwich.

He has worked with coaches from Carlos Corberan to Neil Warnock in the past but the opportunity to experience a fresh style of football was behind his decision to join Wagner’s backroom staff.

“Working next to David is a big learning curve. He is very good at what he does. He knows how to manage situations and knows when and how to make big decisions,” Pelach told the Pink Un.

“For me as a young coach, it is unbelievable to get to have the chance to see every day how he deals with every situation and decides things.

“One of the biggest things in football is how you manage people; this is more important than tactics, David is very good at this and it’s a great chance for me to learn.

“The way he creates the environment makes me want to give more and more to him. It’s a big chance for me to learn. David is really good, I have to say – he is the best manager I have worked with.”

Wagner recently described Pelach as being the ‘missing piece’ to his backroom team and their relationship has continued to flourish in the weeks since his arrival.

Pelach has revealed it was love at first sight between the pair and knew after a brief spell that he made the right choice.

“When I came here I wanted certain things – a chance of promotion, I want to learn and I wanted to be next to a manager who could bring these things,” the Spaniard said.

“You never really know until you start but in the third week I was calling home saying ‘I am in the right place. I am with the right manager’.

“This gives me a lot of energy because I like the way he does things. I will learn a lot about man management and German football. The way he prepares the week and pre-season is amazing.

“It was the best pre-season of my career, just the way that everything was organised, not just results. I’m happy and hopefully, this will mean the team can finish well in May.”
