Linda Perkins from Norwich sentenced for police prank calls
Linda Perkins, 58, has been issued with a Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
Perkins, of Netherwood Green in Norwich, pleaded guilty to six counts of failing to comply with a Community Protection Notice (CPN) while appearing at Norwich Magistrates’ Court on August 29.
The court heard that she had called the police control room on six occasions, breaching the 12-month CPN issued to her on April 28, 2023.
Perkins made two calls in one day stating she had been assaulted, but on arrival police found that she had been drinking and her injury was from a fall the previous day.
On another occasion, she called complaining about the wait for an ambulance and said she didn’t care about the letters or warnings she had received, and claimed she would burn them in the caller’s face.
The CBO follows previous action taken to try to address her behaviour, including a 12-month Community Protection Warning (CPW) issued on March 31, after the police received 80 calls for service between July 2022 and June 2023.
Perkins has been given a three-year CBO, which means she must not contact Norfolk police, ambulance or fire services, or the NHS on 999 or 101, unless in the case of a genuine emergency, or make false statements or allegations to these services.
Sgt Ali Tassie, from the Operational Partnership Team in Norwich, said: “These calls have been going on for some time and take our officers and other emergency services away from supporting and helping other people.
“This result demonstrates that we will take action when necessary against those who continue to make false or malicious calls to emergency services.”
As well as the CBO, Perkins was ordered to pay a fine of £200, a victim surcharge of £80 and costs of £105.
