Blues concert fundraiser for Stalham Baptists

There will be a free concert at Stalham Baptist Church next Saturday to raise funds towards the refurbishment of premises at the church.

Bar Room Blues will be performing at Stalham Baptist church at 7pm on Saturday 26 November. Although the concert is free, donations will be sought from those attending and the proceeds will go towards the refurbishing of “The School Room” and its associated facilities, that together form the church’s community letting space.

The trio’s repertoire will be enjoyed by those who remember, or are curious about, the British blues boom of the 1960s. They do not take themselves too seriously so, as well as the music, expect a good deal of banter between the band members and engagement with the audience.

Chris Myatt-Jones plays acoustic guitar, Greg “BP” Chapman plays harmonica, and sometimes square-necked Dobro, while Gerry “No Worries” Morris plays fretless bass (hence his nickname!). Gerry is currently in Australia so, for this concert only, his place will be taken by cajon player, Jude Eames, who will be travelling from Northampton especially for the gig.

Diana Gordon, a deacon at Stalham Baptist Church, says, “We are delighted that Bar Room Blues were prepared to offer their services to help our fund raising efforts. The School Room and associated kitchen has had no significant refurbishment since they were built in 1884. With improved facilities we can begin to provide a much larger range of activities to support our local community, during and beyond these days of recession, high inflation, and hardship for many.”

The proceeds of the concert will add to the £315,000 already secured through loans, grants and fund raising towards the £600,000 target.
