Record crowds at Sheringham BeachLife outreach
Sheringham BeachLife recently concluded with a record number of children and young people in attendance. Approximately 250 individuals participated in various activities throughout the week, with additional family members joining in the afternoon and evening events. The theme for this year’s BeachLife was “Wow moments with Jesus,” with stories such as the miraculous haul of fish, Jesus calming the storm, feeding the 5000, and doubting Thomas being explored through fun and creative activities.
The mornings kicked off with the Beach Special on The Leas, where participants enjoyed songs, challenges, drama by the Circus of WOW!, and the popular gunge tank. Following this, children and young people split into age groups for the Going Deeper sessions, delving into the day’s theme in engaging ways. Family events included a treasure trail, giant inflatables, boat modelling challenge, sports and games, a family picnic, and the tide fight on the final day. Evening activities featured beach sculptures and the “Sheropoly” youth trail around town.
Sheringham BeachLife is a collaborative effort by the local churches, aimed at providing an enjoyable experience for young people in the area. The event, which has been running for 13 years, is supported by nearly 80 volunteers from different churches in Sheringham. Peter Skivington, the planning group leader, expressed satisfaction with the week’s success and highlighted the positive feedback from attendees. The next BeachLife event is set to take place during the February half term, with the summer edition scheduled for August 2025.
The success of Sheringham BeachLife would not have been possible without the support of local businesses, including The Reef pool, Starlings toyshop, Salt promenade cafe, and the Sitting Room restaurant, who donated prizes. Additionally, a grant from the Sheringham Poors and Ploughlet Trust significantly contributed to the event’s costs. Those interested can stay updated on the latest news and events through the Sheringham BeachLife website and Facebook page. As the community looks forward to future editions of BeachLife, the organizers are grateful for the ongoing support and participation from residents and visitors alike.
