Wedding planning leads Katy to Broads chaplaincy
Katy Prentice and her fiancé Mark initially began their investigation into whether they could get married on a boat, eventually leading Katy to join the Waterways Chaplaincy team in the Loddon and Chedgrave area. As she learned about the role of the Waterways Chaplaincy, Katy felt called to pursue it. Her background in sailing, previous exploration of ministry, and personal experiences have prepared her for this role. Katy’s goal in this role is to live out her faith, provide practical assistance, and be a compassionately present to those living on or vacationing near the waterways.
The duties of a Waterways Chaplain involve providing a range of assistance, from directing holiday makers and helping cruiser hirers with their boats to offering support to the bereaved. Additionally, the chaplains form connections with the local fisherman and offer a listening ear to those who need it. Katy still hasn’t set a date for her wedding, but she now knows that they will be able to have a service of blessing on the Defender of Oulton, the boat where she and her fiancé hoped to get married. Katy and her mentor, Mike Cadman, are hoping for more people to join their team as Waterways Chaplains, particularly those who are willing to commit to walking one mile along the waterways each week.
The Waterways Chaplaincy is an organization that provides support and assistance to individuals living on or near the waterways. Katy’s involvement in the Waterways Chaplaincy will allow her to put her faith into action as she helps others in the Loddon and Chedgrave area. She hopes to reach out to those who are lonely or vulnerable by organizing a knit and natter group, as well as providing practical resources and facilities for those living on boats in the area. This opportunity enables her to use her gifts and experiences to minister effectively to others while also providing practical assistance and support.
Katy’s involvement in the Waterways Chaplaincy was sparked by her initial quest to get married on a boat, turning into a calling to serve and support those living on or visiting the waterways. Her new role will allow her to provide spiritual and practical support to those in Loddon and Chedgrave, as well as fulfilling her desire to live out her faith and serve those in need. With the support of the Waterways Chaplaincy team and the hope for more chaplains to join, Katy is ready to fully embrace her new role.
