Royal garden party honour for Norwich choir leader

Meg Turpin, musical director of Norwich Community Choir, was invited to the Queen’s Garden Party on Wednesday May 29. Meg was nominated for this honour to recognise her ‘services to the community’.

Meg set up the choir, over ten years ago, to bring people of all ages and backgrounds together to sing – in doing so creating a sense of community and enhancing people’s health and well-being. The choir is open to anyone who loves singing – there are no auditions. Meg also brings Millie, her Registered Therapy Dog to choir to provide additional companionship to anyone who needs it.

Norwich Community Choir has supported the local community in many ways, big and small, since 2008. They’ve sung at events as diverse as summer fetes, St Andrew’s Hall Open Christmas, care homes, Lord Mayor’s procession and the Bishop’s Open Garden fundraisers. Through holding concerts and supporting other’s fundraising events, they’ve raised money for many local charities including Norwich Door-to-Door, Norfolk Blood

Bikes, EACH and Norfolk Age UK. In 2018 alone, they raised over £4,000 for Nelson’s Journey.

Meg was accompanied to the Royal Garden Party by Kyanna Sutton, a regular soloist at the choir. Meg said “It was a great honour for us to attend the Queen’s garden party at Buckingham Palace last week. It was a shame the whole choir could not attend with me, as everyone who’s taken part in our performances or made new members feel welcome in our choir has contributed something to the local community.”

Norwich Community Choir are always happy to sing and can provide a small or large group of singers, depending on the venue / community event in question. If you’d like the choir to sing at your event, you can fill in an enquiry form on the choir website or contact Meg directlyon [email protected] or 01603 495062
