Norwich ministers contribute to popular Bible notes

Two Norwich-based church ministers have joined almost 50 other theologians and Bible scholars from around the world in contributing to Fresh from the Word 2018 – a series of daily Bibles notes, which have just been launched.

The two Norwich ministers are Tim Yau – a Pioneer Missioner who works for the Anglican Diocese of Norwich and Ian Fosten – leader of the ministry team for Norwich area URC churches –

Fresh from the Word 2018 provides 365 sets of notes, prayers and suggestions for action on biblical themes from theologians and biblical scholars; creative and inspirational writers from around the world, priced at £9.95.

Ian Fosten has contributing to the publication for the past few years and said: “I am very aware that often in church we cling tightly to familiar ways of expressing what we think the Bible contains without actually re-reading its pages in the light of contemporary culture and understanding.

“Writing for Fresh From the Word demands that this open-minded, open-hearted re-reading takes place and then is offered in an accessible way to people who are serious about listening to ‘the Word’ for today. Writing reflections and prayers to accompany the daily readings is a humbling privilege. It is also a delightfully creative opportunity to re-discover that ‘the Word’ is indeed living and ready to be encountered amidst the ordinary events of life.

“To give an idea of the sort of ‘ordinary events’  that feature in the book, they include a group of youngsters, awed into un-customary silence by a solar eclipse, to the last game of table tennis I played against my ageing father – as ever, he won!”

You can read about Tim Yau’s contribution to the book in our previous article on the subject.

The 2018 notes address topics such as work life balance, communicating in the 21st century, a community of care, remembering with God, and the Creative Spirit. The book journeys through Holy Week with the Psalms and with the Gospel of John in Advent, and includes weeks on Proverbs, Hosea, Colossians, Hebrews and the Gospel of Mark.
