National award for Christian Aid’s courageous Lucy
An 18 year old volunteer for Christian Aid based in Norwich has won a national award – the Diana Award for being a courageous citizen.
Lucy Riseborough will be presented the award by David Cameron later in the year at a ceremony in London. Lucy has created an Eco Council at her school and spoke at the Norwich Hunger for Justice event alongside Ruth Valerio and Chloe Smith MP. She also helps with other events and in the local Christian Aid office.
Julian Bryant, Regional co-ordinator for Christian Aid said, ‘Lucy has been volunteering with us for nine months and I have been so impressed by her dedication to make a difference to other people and also creation.”
“She really gets the need that God calls us to bring change to the world. She is always willing to ‘have a go’ at anything ranging from public speaking to helping out with refreshments and events. Lucy really deserves this award – she is an inspiration.”
Lucy’s achievements are all the more impressive considering she suffers from a severe kidney condition. The Thorpe St Andrew student has a condition known as a Pelviureteric (PUJ) obstruction – causing her kidney to swell, reducing its function.
Lucy had an operation in December, around the same time she discovered her teachers had nominated her for the award. The award is a lasting legacy to Princess Diana’s belief in the power of young people to change the world.
