Holy Trinity church in Norwich names its new Rector
Holy Trinity church in Norwich has named as its new Rector Rev Dr Richard James who became a Christian in the very same church over 30 years ago.
Richard was previously Vicar of Christ Church, Cockfosters, North London, but has strong local connections. He grew up in Norfolk, attended school in Norwich and as a teenager joined Holy Trinity’s youth group where he became a Christian in the mid-1980s.
“It is very exciting to be coming back to my church roots here in Norwich, but now, over 30 years later, as Rector of Holy Trinity”, he said.
After leaving Norwich, and following his training and qualification as a medical doctor, he prepared for ordination at Ridley Hall, Cambridge, and was Curate of Christ Church Clifton, before moving to Christ Church where he has overseen a period of considerable growth.
He and his wife Carole have four children: Anna, who married this summer, Tom and Rebecca, both at university, and Matthew, who will be joining a school in Norwich.
“My wife, Carole, and I are looking forward to living in this beautiful city and discovering opportunities to share the gospel about Jesus among the people of Holy Trinity and the surrounding area,” said Richard.
Speaking about Richard’s installation as Rector, Ian Dyble, the Rural Dean for Norwich South, said: “It is great to welcome Richard to share in ministry in Norwich and to see what God has in store for us as we work together to live out and share the Gospel.”
The installation and celebration service will be on Sunday September 3, at 6pm at the church on Trinity Street, and will be conducted by the Bishop of Norwich. All local well-wishers and friends of the church are welcome to attend. A large number of members from the Rev Dr James’ previous church in north London will be making the journey to Norwich to attend the service.
